EP Football working hard

When I took over the weight room at Eagle Point High School in Jan. 2007, I had about 6 kids that could Power Clean 200 pounds. This June at the end of school we had 9 Freshman Power Clean 210 or more. I wish I could say it was my magic words that made the kids more explosive, but I can't. I gave them direction and the opportunity and some took advantage of it and others, well the others will be others this coming season. I was very proud of the athletes that stuck with my Athletic Weight Training Class this past school year. We made up ground on other athletic programs in our league. It is my goal to put the strongest and most athletic athletes on the field every Friday night. EP athletes will be mentally tougher then their competition!!!

We have 3 Clubs that athletes can get in and they are 650/800/900 lb. Clubs! In order to enter a club one must add their 1 rep max totals for Bench Press, Parallel Squat, and the Power Clean.

Week 2 of EP Football's Summer Workouts

Week 2 went a little smoother then week one because the young guys had a week of training under them and they had a little experience with the exercises. Week 2 kept the same format as week 1 and the rest of the summer will follow the same format. Some of the younger guys really want to put more weight on the bar and we (coaches) have to remind them to work technique first. EP Football players are working hard, we have a better commitment then last year at this time, but I would still like to see some better leadership and commitment by the Senior class.

Brief Glance at our Agility Work: Rabbit Drill and Speed Ladder are done on Days #1 and #3, Zig Zag Run and Reverse Pivot Drill are done on Days #2 and #4.

Week 1 of EP Football's Summer Workouts

Week 1 was a lot of new info for our young guys coming in. Our older guys were dreading the first workout of the week, because they knew it was a heavy lower-body workout. we started the first week with averaging 50 athletes a day between the two workout times. Kids worked very hard this first week. All teenage boys really like heavy upper-body workout days. Our heavy upper-body is on Day #2 and that is there incentive to get Day#1 done and out of the way. Week #1 started on June 15th and went through the 18th. Watching the underclassmen lift really excites me and the other coaches about EP Football!

Brief Glance at EP Workouts: Day #1 Core exercises were Power Cleans, Dead-lift, Back Squats. Day #2 Core exercises were Push Press, Bench, Lying Row. Day #3 Core Exercises were Snatch, Overhead Squat, and Front Squat. Day #4 Core exercises were Power Cleans, DB Bench, and Iso Bent-over Row.
