Football in December!!!

Hope everybody is having a great Holiday Season and a Bowl Season. I have picked all the winners except for two games and they were the OSU game and last nights Miami game.

Every teenage football player in the state of Oregon hopes to play football in December!

I don't think there was anybody that wanted to play late in the season more then Sheldon's WR John Campbell. It is easy to look up to NFL or College players and want to play like them. I want to play like this guy! Well, I can't play anymore, so I want my players to play like this. Campbell played every play as if it was his last. He made the most of every reception.

This is a great example of someone in the YAC PAC!

The Off-Season

Well the Off-Season is here for the Fall sport athletes, and some of them are a little disappointed in the fact their team did not make it as far as they would have liked. Last week we had a great combo of athletes coming to Strength and Conditioning Club on Tuesday's and Thursday's. We had roughly 8 VB players and 4 Girls Soccer players along with about 35 football players and some students making up PE class. Athletes have worked really hard on the Tuesday and Thursday workouts and are taking the next step towards becoming more successful in the individual sports. As a Strength and Conditioning Coach it is nice to see so many athletes wanting to be better then they were the previous season. As soon as you become complacent with your ability, you will no longer be the best you can be.

As the football season ended this year, I had athletes asking to start the (SSC) Strength and Conditioning Club the next week. As much as I would have like to, it is important that the athletes take a few weeks off to reflect and get rejuvenated before starting workouts.

We are always looking for more athletes to join us as long as they are willing to work hard and have some fun!

Game Day Workouts???

Lifting on game day, is it better to lift before the game or after the game? The Portland Trail Blazers have athletes dabbling in both. I have been a firm believer in lifting on Game Day for as long as I have been training! As a young athlete I was told to get a lift in on game days, and I feel it made me stronger later in the season and in the end of the games. Now getting a lift in doesn't mean go in the weight room and do maximal effort lifts, it just suggest that you go in there and get your body moving by doing your everyday movements.

I believe that the athletes at EPHS right now have bought into lifting on game day, but that was not the case when I arrived at EPHS in the fall of 2006! The football team has had much better team speed and health over the last three years then it had in the past, and it is because of the athletes commitment to the weight room!

I would hope all Oregonians have a little Blazer in them sense they are the only professional team in the state. They have to be everyone's 2nd B-BALL team at least!

Instructional Videos of Position Drills

Attention all Offensive football players and coaches involved in the Eagle Point Football Program. I have two videos that are great fundamental drills for all Offensive Positions! I wish we could get all of our coaches to do just these drills at the lower levels and we would be better for it in the long run of things here at EPHS.Please watch and learn something from these videos. I have been around the sport of Football my entire life, my father was a HS football coach so I was the water boy, ball boy, and student of the game all at the same time. I picked up a few things from these videos, and if I can do that then everyone can. If you say to your self I know all this then you are a terrible team player because I have yet to see any one of our players or coaches do these things and if they do, they can always improve on them.

Please take something away from these videos! Have fun it is FOOTBALL we are talking about here!

Some U of O cut ups

Saw these cut ups and wanted to show everyone!

If I can say one thing EP Football players please watch your offensive position in these videos. Watch how the athletes carry out their fakes and watch how the O-Line get after their blocks. WR's making down field blocks. WR's and QB's take special note on the screens they show and watch how they are executed! Rewind if needed but study this game film during the off-season.

Enjoy some great FOOTBALL:

The Off-Season starts

The Off-Season is a thing of the Beauty! I will tell you why. The new thoughts of next year are already going through my mind. I have not forgotten about the seniors who are leaving us, but I have come to appreciate what they have done for our program and also realize they can no longer contribute physically for us. The football coaches are preparing to talk to all the under class man and set goals for each. If I were a player again on this team my number 1 goal would be to make the playoffs, and leave no questions behind.

The athletes are working hard in the weight room to become better athletes, some are wrestling and some are playing basketball. The others that are not participating in a winter sport will start meeting twice a week to work on speed and agility and plyometrics with the football staff.

Eagle Athletes need to take the next step towards turning the athletic program around. I believe you all know what needs to be done!!!

Friday of Week 10

Week 10 - Well, the Football team finds itself in a position in which they must win by 10 points to enter the playoffs this post season. The post season has not found EP football program for 12 years and it has been 13 years sense the Eagles have hosted a playoff game. The Eagles are hosting the Ashland Grizzlies at 7pm tonight.

All I have to say is, WIN!!!

If our players stay focused and give their best effort every play we will walk off the field victorious and have the opportunity to host a playoff game against Wilsonville High School.

WIN EVERY PLAY!!!

I have never coached in a playoff game before and I am very excited for tonight's game, because for us (Eagles) it is a playoff game. We win by 9 points and we continue to play football. We lose and we start preparing for next fall! I do not want to start preparing for next fall yet!

We are prepared and we are ready, now all there is left to do is play the game!

EP Football Sunday of Week #8

This weekend was a great weekend because the kids played well and won their Homecoming game Friday night against a much improved Mazama team. Mazama is going to surprise someone in our league and boy am I glad it was not us! In 4 years of coaching at EP this was the first game the kids got jacked up before the game and stayed up the entire game. Sideline players were involved in the game by calling pass/run and being ready for sudden changes. The staff decided to change things up a little and before the game we took the kids in the weight room cranked the music up and reminded the kids that this is were they spent their off-season training to win football games.

No one is going to give us anything! Everyone said the Eagles would be last place in the SSC this year, well that's not going to happen as of last Friday! I have a dream of coaching in the Playoffs as well as the players should be dreaming of playing in a playoff game.

I thought this would be an appropriate clip this week:

EP Football wednesday of Week #5

Wow!!! What a breathe of fresh air Tuesday was at practice. The temperature cooled down and stayed pretty dry for the most part and the kids were upbeat and flying around. I took a moment to look over and see our JV's scrimmaging the Frosh team and their was a lot of excitement over there. Both teams were hooting and hollering for their teammates. The varsity had a good practice despite a few guys out to flu like symptoms. Kids jumped in as back ups and it looked like they had been doing it the whole time.

If Tuesday was fresh air today was full of ROSES!!! Kids bounced around and were flying around on defense, catching balls on offense, linemen were firing off the ball. Special teams looked pretty good on sudden changes today.

If we play Friday with the intensity of today (Wed) then we will play well. When we play well we can and will play with anybody!

One time this year I want our Kickoff team to really set the tone of the game by knocking their opponent in the ground multiple times on the opening kickoff! I feel if we can accomplish this the rest of the team will feed off of it emotionally.

Saw this video today and thought it was pretty good for this weeks video.

EP Football Sunday of Week #4

WOW!!! It feels great to get a win, it had been sense October 10th last year that we got a win! I am hoping that the players like the feeling so much that they work so hard they never want to feel the pain of a lose again. This was the first game this year that the players never showed signs of defeat. They believed they could win for 48 minutes, now we did have a bit of let down in the 3rd Quarter but, I never felt like our kids doubted they were going to win.

We need a great week of lifting and practice so we are prepared for a pretty good Churchill team! I am a firm believer in, you play like you practice. We need to make a conscious effort to have better second half of practices this week. We as a coaching staff as well as the players need to find a way to have better 2nd half practices.

Great win fellas and lets get better this week!!!

EP Football Day #4 of Game Week #3

After starting the season off 0-3, I find myself staying up late at night trying to find material on the Internet that will motivate our kids to take their practice to the next level. I am reminded of a quote "If you always do what you have always done, then you will always get what you have always got!" Anonymous

I just wish for one week our kids would come out to practice and fly around for 2 hours for three days in a row. We have so many kids with bumps and bruises and they don't practice because of them, and they don't realize the impact they are having on the outcome of Friday nights games!

I want to remind the 40-45 kids that spent all summer in the weight room, that it was not for nothing. I personally have seen huge changes in individuals. When the individuals start leading the rest of the team in the right direction on an everyday basis we could, NO, we will be a very good Football team.

When I watch sporting events, I watch how athletes move. I watched our VB team play a few times the last few weeks and see that we have a lot of potential, but the players don't play out of an athletic position all the time, our football players do the same thing. I want all of the athletes that I coach in the weight room to buy into the fact that I am training you to be a better athlete. Trust that what we do in the weight room will transfer onto the athletic court or fields. I know some of them think I just train them to be a bigger and better football players and that couldn't be further from the truth.

This video clip says it all:

EP Football Day #1 of Game Week #2

Well Game #1 did not go as well as anyone in an Eagle uniform thought. We made a lot of rookie mistakes and just were not prepared to play a varsity football game. I hope the players understand now, why we need to get the best look we can on scout team. We have a late practice today and then school starts on Tuesday. I hope this years team handles adversity and distractions better then the teams in the past.

The one bright spot of the game on Friday was our Special Teams, I believe we out played them on Special Teams. We caused a T.O., we pinned them inside the 10, we returned every K.O. past the 30.

I hope the athletes are ready for a pretty athletic Henley team.

EP Football Day #4 of Game Week #1

The football team had a good camp and is off and running. The team is ready to be battle tested this Friday against Crescent Valley. I feel we are much more ready as a team this year for game one then we were last year. Our competition is much greater in CV, then last year with Madras who we beat 55-0.

My hope for this years team is that the players make corrections of their errors as the season progresses. I also hope that after our last game of the year which I hope is in late November or December, but I hope I can say that the players matured and progressed throughout the season.

This game week I felt like the YAC PAC made great advances in Individual time, but the transfer to team and 7 on 7 is not their yet. I feel that the players lose their sense of urgency and their focus. Tomorrow night will tell me exactly who can Flip the Switch and who needs to mature still.

Sense the Ducks play tonight I felt this was appropriate to add:

EP Football Day #4 of Doubles

Day #4 - Started out super poor! If I didn't know better I would say we had a team from the last couple of years out there, sandbagging it around. I was embarrassed as should all of our players for getting removed from the field by our Head Coach. Defense was mediocre at best today. We played like we will give up 45 points a game. I know, you know, and everyone involved in the EP Football program knows we are way better then that. We are missing the consistency at the leadership roles across the board. It is there at times, which lets us coaches know the leaders have what it takes, but we need it all the time.

Offensive practice went fairly well, our run game took off like a train. The passing attack took about two steps backwards in my opinion today. Nothing we can't recover from but something we need to address as the YAC PAC. Individual Period was a great success again for the YAC PAC, we seem to get a lot done especially with 25 Receivers going through drills.

Two YAC PAC Players stood out on Day #4 at a couple different times throughout the day and I want to say thanks for the effort and keep bringing it every play. Josh Wilson and Aaron Foster Ran like they wanted TD's during Oklahoma Drill, and then Wilson had a great Defensive Indy period and Foster ran great against our Varsity Defense during team time.

EP Football Day #3 of Doubles

Day #3 - This was a great day for the YAC PAC in Individual time, but 7 on 7 and Team was not up to par. Right now our hold up is players playing scout team and giving looks for our 1's and 2's. We can not get better with out the scout team. I just wish two or three JV players would take some pride in trying to make the 1's look bad and blow things up out there on scout team.

Individual Time, I felt that the WR's got better today. I saw guys focusing more and actually starting to look like legit WR's. I feel our foot work is getting a lot better. I did appreciate the fact that 2/3 of the WR's were out doing Pre-Practice work, now I just wish they would concentrate a little more on looking it to the tuck when playing Around the Clock!

Great Indy Period guys, not lets get everyone going during 7 on 7 and Team time.

EP Football Day #2 of Doubles

Day #2 - Started out a little sluggish but finished up with a good Offensive team session. We are looking better and better every practice. Receivers have come up with a name for themselves and it is the YAC PAC! We will emphasize the importance of getting yards after catch this season. I have told the WR's that they have only one chance to prove that they are worthy of this name, and that trial date is September 4th at Home against Crescent Valley @ 7pm.

Sophomores have an early lead on our fund-raising competition this fall. We will have another check on Friday this week to see who has sold our Gold Cards.

FYI: It is possible to run a sub 4 second 40 yard dash! Check out this link:

EP Football Day #1 of Doubles

Day #1 - Strong start for the Eagles this year! We are about 3 deep at all 4 WR spots that know what is going on because they have been to all the summer 7 on 7's and Camp. We have a good group of players that are head and shoulders above where they were last year. Today's practice was much more intense then all of last years practices and we were only in helmets.

If everyday is as good as today then Crescent Valley better watch out. We have 25 kids that are in better football shape then any one kid was last year after day #1 of Doubles.

Remember you must take every rep like it is your last, because you never know whats goingto happen the next snap!!!

Here is a Video clip of a DIII school! Not one of these kids have an Athletic scholarship, they are training to play because they LOVE the game and want to WIN! DI schools usually have 10-20 kids Power Clean 300 +, this school has 29 and 13 over 335!!!

Great efforts by the majority of the athletes this past week in the weight room. There may have been others but the one that I know for sure that made every workout this summer is Senior Steven Josephson. Steven does a great job of leading by example in the weight room. Steven is our #1 Ranked athlete on our Varsity Football Team. The Freshman team is lead by Johnny Wilkerson as the #1 Ranked Football Player and he also finished as the #20 ranked athlete in our program.

Again, Great job Steven, Johnny, and the rest of the Eagles. We are continuing to close the gap and within reach of over-powering our competition!

Lets have a great week of Doubles starting on Monday @ 4pm!

Week 9 of EP Football's Summer Workouts

Week 9 was a little less intense then week 8, but still a good week of work. I wanted everyone to see the full video I created because I really am impressed with how far the athletes have come in one year. With one day left of this weeks training, there has been some great numbers in the weight room led by (Junior Mario Rivera with a parallel squat of 440). I will post more details on the players lifting and sprint times this weekend. I have about 95 players to compute (time consuming), but I love it! I would do it for 300 more.
Great Pre-Season work Eagles!!!

Coach Wolfram's rating for this week was a 7 on a scale of 1-10!

Week 8 of EP Football's Summer Workouts

Week 8 - This week was by far the best week of training for the Eagle Point Football Team. We averaged over 85 football players each day this week. This week the players were divided up into 8 groups and 4 went to the weight room and 4 stayed on the field and did agility drills. After 45 minutes we switched the groups and started all over again. There was more energy in the last four days then all of last summer combined. We are on the climb, and teams on the schedule better be prepared!!!

In order to play 48 minutes on intense Football, one must train like it is game day
EVERYDAY!

Coach Wolfram's rating for this week was a 9 on a scale of 1-10!

Week 7 of EP Football's Summer Workouts

Week 7 -This week was a mandated off-week set by the OSAA. We had zero contact with the kids this week and it was pretty exciting that a few players took it upon themselves to stay the course with their training. I heard a few say they went to a local gym and or ran at home, or got together and played catch.

Here is a clip of our Freshman at Camp scoring a TD against a very good Central Valley team:

Week 6 of EP Football's Summer Workouts

Week 6 - This week athletes worked really hard to finish up strong before our week off. Football players finished strong with a good last week of 7 on 7. I have received numerous compliments from other coaches in the Valley about how our football players are starting to look the part. I don't take compliments very well about my actions in the weight room. I truly believe that it is the athletes hard work and dedication to the program that I laid out for them. All of the credit really does go to the Athletes. I want to give a big thank you to the rest of the football staff that helped open the Weight room over the summer and helped encourage the athletes to become better on a daily basis.

The freshman class once again has had more football players at workouts and 7 on 7 then any other class. Last years freshman set the bar, and now this years freshman have jumped over and set it a little higher. Great Job EPHS Freshman!

All of the athletes, I want to say thank you for buying into the program and we have great things ahead of us at EPHS this year.

One last thing before Fall sports get under way, "Be Happy, but Never Satisfied!"
Be happy with how far you have come, but never be satisfied, because you can always do better!

Coach Wolfram's rating for this week was a 7 on a scale of 1-10!

Week 5 of EP Football's Summer Workouts

Week 5 - This week athletes worked very hard on Monday and Tuesday. Monday we had close to 65 athletes in the weight room preparing for the fall sports seasons. Wednesday the football players got their last workout of the week in before loading up and heading for Camp in McCloud. I was very pleased with how many athletes chose to get a workout in on the day that camp was starting.

Football Camp was great for the Eagle Point Football Team! Our Freshman proved to be very fast on Defense and fairly balanced between the air and ground on the offensive side of the ball.

Our Varsity Linemen won the Linemen challenge that was spread out over 3 nights worth of competition. The eagles were lead by Sophomore Tyrone Holmes!

The JV 7 on 7 team won their bracket of competition and was lead by Sophomore Receivers Edward Martinez and Loren Nesberg!

All athletes became better football players and became a little more mentally tough this year at camp.

Players battled physically and mentally for 5 days of non-stop football. The temperature reached triple digits the last three days which made for very warm practices. Players responded better this year then last to the coaching styles of the staff.

Brief glance at our dynamic warm-ups.

Walking Lunges X 10 yards
Reverse Lunges X 10 yards
High Knees X 10 yards
Chicken Wings X 10 yards
High Knee Crossover X 10 yards (each side)
Quick feet Carioca X 10 yards (each side)
Side Lunges X 10 yards
Toe Touches X 10 yards
S. Leg High Knees X 10 yards
S. Leg Butt Kickers X 10 yards
Goblet Squats X 10 reps

Week 4 of EP Football's Summer Workouts

Week 4 - This was our last week of our first phase of our summer strength program. The athletes are starting to see some of the physical benefits of the weight room as we started 7 on 7 this week. Our football players are starting and stopping faster then they have ever done before and they are becoming mentally tough. Many people know that you can get strong, faster, and more explosive in the weight room. The thing people over-look is the fact that teenagers gain confidence in the weight room. Teenagers will carry their heads higher down the hall and on the field when they know they have put in the time in the weight room.

We had a few of the Girls soccer team join us this week and they worked hard and got better. I hope they do not get to discouraged by being sore. Girls it will get better, I promise.

EP athletes keep up the hard work, the fall season is just around the corner!

Brief glance at our rotational work this week. This week we did wipers twice, barbell torque once and windshield wipers once. All rotational exercises were 4 sets of 8 repetitions.

Coach Wolfram's rating for this week was a 6 on a scale of 1-10!

Week 3 of EP Football's Summer Workouts

Week 3 of Strength and Conditioning is complete and I am regretful to say I missed three of the four days, but I had a good reason. My son was born Friday June 26th @ 10:16am. I brought my wife and son home Monday afternoon and we have been making adjustments to our daily life sense then. I have talked with the coaches that have been at the workouts everyday. Coaches have explained that our numbers have been down a little because of vacations and other obligations of the athletes. The athletes that have been coming for three straight weeks are starting to see the difference in the physical stature. EP football players have continued to work hard and make gains in the weight room. I want to give a shout out to a few female athletes that have been going toe to toe with the football players on a daily basis, and a special shout out to Jessica Ferro who comes everyday and works hard. Jessica sets a great example for all (Male/Female) younger athletes by demonstrating great effort and desire to get better each and everyday. Great job Jessica!

Brief glance at our Plyometric work this week: 2X10 of DBL Leg hops, 2X10 S. Leg Hops, and 4X8 Box Jumps multiple heights.

Coach Wolfram's rating for this week was a 7 on a scale of 1-10!
